We also explore the insights and advice they have for aspiring entrepreneurs in the education and training industry.
The Humble Beginnings Of Stag Match
In 2001, at the age of 21, Mr. Alex Wong Heqin founded Stag Match as a sole-proprietor tuition agency/center in Hougang, Singapore. With minimal capital and no financial aid, he faced constant challenges and comparisons to established tuition centers. Despite his inexperience, Mr. Alex managed all aspects of the center’s setup, including designing brochures, marketing, and recruiting tutors.
From the start, Mr. Alex believed in the potential of every child and focused on cultivating the right learning attitude and uncovering hidden talents within them. Over the years, Stag Match has built a reliable education system aligned with Singapore’s focus on fostering creative thinking and analytical skills. Today, the company has grown into a fully integrated tuition center with 80 employees and 16 centers located across Singapore, driven by the hard work, dedication, and determination of Mr. Alex and his team, who consistently strive for excellence in teaching and learning.
Adapting The Latest Technology

SMET has always been a forerunner in adopting the latest technological advancements in education. They were early adopters of Asynchronous and Synchronous learning platforms, using them even before the pandemic made such methods essential. Additionally, they have incorporated Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) into their training and learning programs, allowing learners to engage with course materials in new and immersive ways.
Addressing Emerging Challenges

The education and training industry is not without its challenges, but SMET is proactive in tackling them. One such challenge is the dynamic learning attitudes and focus of young students. To address this, SMET teachers prioritize not only academic results but also aptitude outcomes, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for their students.
Striving For Continuous Improvement
Stag Match Education and Training Group (SMET) believes there is always room for improvement, even though they have already developed top-notch learning experiences and curriculums. They continue to seek new ways to enhance their offerings and stay at the forefront of the education and training industry.
